The Village Cidiot, written and performed by Lauren Letellier, as a fundraiser for LitNet

June 6, 2025 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
$20

In Lauren Letellier’s hit solo show, THE VILLAGE CIDIOT, a dyed-in-the-wool Manhattanite loses her big corporate job and moves, reluctantly, to a tiny upstate town where her city skills are no match for rural reality. A hilarious and moving journey about navigating life’s disruptions with humor, compassion, and tick repellent. Critics agree: if you’ve ever been beaned by one of life’s curveballs, you’ll find this show “Uproarious & poignant!” “An entrancing piece of theater!”

This special performance of THE VILLAGE CIDIOT is a fundraiser for the  Literacy Network (LitNet). Since 1991, LitNet has offered free, one-on-one tutoring sessions for adults. LitNet’s flexible, personalized approach to tutoring enables adult learners to succeed in their jobs, support their families, and engage with their local communities. The organization began by teaching reading skills, and LitNet quickly expanded its curriculum with lessons in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), citizenship test preparation, and adult basic education to better serve the large population of immigrants who live and work in the Berkshires.

Lauren Letellier is a playwright and performer whose writing centers on women attempting to navigate life’s disruptions with humor and compassion. Her shows explore universal themes—identity, purpose, family, loss—through the lens of everyday experiences. As a writer and performer, she has produced two critically-acclaimed solo shows. Her most recent show, THE VILLAGE CIDIOT, has been called “Uproarious & poignant!” “An entrancing piece of theater!” “Amazing! Beautiful storytelling – so funny, emotional, yet relatable.” Her previous solo show, THE FIERY SWORD OF JUSTICE, exposed the hilarious and harrowing similarities between family and corporate dysfunction. Critics called it “bold, funny, wise, and brave” and “big, provocative, and surprising.” Lauren shares the role of Hillsdale Town Historian with her husband Chris Atkins. Together they investigate the nooks and crannies of Hillsdale history to bring people, places, and events to life for a 21st-century audience.
