Colin is a multidisciplinary artist and poet of Haitian descent and the author of Dreaming in Kreyol. Guided by the belief that storytelling holds transformative power\, her work explores vulnerability\, grief\, trauma\, healing\, and liberation while engaging the intersections of race\, class\, gender\, and her Haitian heritage. She is currently a writer for Metroland Now’s poetry column. A Cave Canem\, VONA\, and New York State Writers Institute fellow\, her poetry appears in journals such as Trolley Literary Journal\, The Eco Theo Review\, Portrait of New England\, and The Porter Gulch Review. \n​Colin lives in New York’s Capital Region\, where she maintains an active studio practice and serves on the boards of Black Dimensions in Art\, Inc. and the Hart Cluett Museum. She is a founding member of the Social Justice Artists Collective. A lover of bodies of water and early mornings\, she believes creativity is a pathway to healing and collective freedom. Through storytelling\, we remember our connection to one another and imagine more liberated futures.

After practicing Tai Chi and Qi Gong for 10 years\, she earned her first Tai Chi certification in 2023. When Mary Hannah teaches Tai Chi\, she draws on her 12 years of experience as a mind-body movement instructor\, teaching yoga in studios\, wellness resorts\, public schools\, summer camps\, and leading mindful outdoor experiences. She delights in sharing the peace and vitality that come from being in nature\, and volunteers to support conservation efforts for Eastern Hemlock trees.

DESCRIPTION:Join the Berkshire Athenaeum at The Mount for Paws & Pages\, a special program celebrating the joy of books\, reading\, and four-legged friends! Young readers are invited to practice their literacy skills by reading aloud to a therapy dog in a relaxed\, supportive environment. During 10-minute sessions\, children can choose a favorite book and share it with a patient and attentive canine listener. \nReading times are limited and available on a first-come\, first-served basis. We recommend arriving at the start of the program to sign up for a session! \nThere’s plenty more to explore beyond Paws & Pages. Families can follow a StoryWalk® along the grounds and create their own nature journal\, encouraging observation\, creativity\, and a closer connection to the beautiful landscape surrounding Edith Wharton’s historic home. \nThis family-friendly program brings together books\, nature\, and the companionship of therapy dogs for a memorable day of reading\, creativity\, and discovery at The Mount. \nPlease note: This event is for the registered therapy dogs below! While we love your pets\, personal pets are not permitted at this event. \nMeet the Pups!\nDaisy Deux is a medium size 6 year old Sproodle (Springer spaniel/poodle). She has been a Bright Spot certified therapy dog for 3 years now. We have worked in local schools in independent reading programs and have visited local rehab facilities upon request. Daisy has also worked with a private trainer as a neutral dog for some clients. Daisy loves people\, especially children. \nMilo is a 3 year old rescued cattle dog mix. He has been certified as a therapy dog since he was a year old. We go to nursing homes\, assisted living\, elementary school\, BCARC day program. We are certified with R. E. A. D. Which is a reading program for children. We are looking forward to the program. Kathy Korte \nNandi is a 5.5 year old English Labrador Retriever. She has been a Bright Spot Therapy dog for 2 years and has also earned her AKC Advanced Therapy dog title. We visit Phelps Cancer Center every Wednesday for visits to staff and patients and Lee Library every other Tuesday for story time. (She recently made the front page of the Eagle!) Nandi is also an accomplished Nosework Champion. \nMabel is a small dog with a BIG personality! She loves playing with her stuffed animals and even chooses one to take to bed every night. Her favorite snack is carrots\, and her favorite place to be is curled up on someone’s lap\, getting lots of pets. When she’s not snuggling\, Mabel loves keeping an eye out for squirrels and rabbits—and chasing them whenever she gets the chance! She also adores her big puppy sister\, Luna. Most of all\, Mabel loves being with people and making new friends. She can’t wait to snuggle up\, listen to some great stories\, and meet you! \n  \nIMPORTANT EVENT INFORMATION: \n\nThis program is designed for young readers\, accompanied by their grown-ups. This program is free and open to the public; registration is not required.\nTen-minute reading sessions with therapy dogs will be available on a first-come\, first-served basis. DESCRIPTION:Join us to celebrate the launch of Sign of a Loon\, the debut novelette of local author and dear friend of The Mount\, Betsy Smith. For this special event\, Smith will be joined by Tom Hoffman of the Washington Historic Commission and Amy Lafave\, the Lenox Library’s Local History Librarian. \nDuring the COVID lockdown\, Smith was granted a rare opportunity to write at The Mount. The mansion was shuttered and empty—the perfect setting for inspiration. Wearing her great-grandmother’s wedding ring around her neck as a talisman\, Smith wandered the halls of what felt like a giant dollhouse\, drawing on Wharton’s surroundings\, writings\, and the spirits said to inhabit The Mount. The result was Sign of a Loon\, a literary exploration of her ancestral history—both real and imagined—ultimately\, the story she sought to find. \n“A beautiful\, evocative\, and deeply personal account of love\, loss\, and forgiveness. By interweaving her family’s fascinating history with her own memories and experiences\, M. After retiring from her career in insurance in 2016\, she started writing. It was a long-held dream she fully embraced. Her creative nonfiction essays and poetry share emotional and often universal stories. Her work has been published by Refinery29\, The Write Launch\, Entropy\, Brevity\, Chaleur Magazine\, and the WriteAngles Journal. Sign of a Loon is her first book.   \nTom Hoffman is a resident of the town of Washington and a member of the Washington Historic Commission.  He has always had a fascination with the William Whitney Estate in Washington\, and with exploring October Mountain. He has collected historical information and documentation from multiple sources.  Tom also enjoys fishing and hiking out-of-the-way locations. \nAmy Lafave is the Local History Librarian at the Lenox Library\, which has an extensive repository of materials on Lenox history. She enjoys working with and assisting historians like Tom. She is a lifelong resident of Lenox\, and currently lives in historic workers’ housing for the old Lenox Glassworks.
