SUMMARY:Summer Author Series | Michelle Young\, The Art Spy
DESCRIPTION:Since 1993\, the Summer Author Series has brought award-winning authors to The Mount. This year’s theme is trailblazers. The eight-week series will highlight the stories of groundbreaking visionaries—scientists\, activists\, thought leaders\, and artists who have broken barriers and reshaped the world.  \nOn July 7 & 8\, author Michelle Young presents The Art Spy: The Extraordinary Untold Tale of WWII Resistance Hero Rose Valland (Harper Collins\, 2025). Based on troves of previously undiscovered documents\, The Art Spy chronicles the brave actions of Rose Valland\, a key Resistance spy embedded within the Nazi’s Parisian art looting headquarters. A veritable female Monuments Man\, Valland has\, until now\, been written out of the annals\, despite bearing witness to the largest art theft in history. The Art Spy is a riveting and stylish saga that moves from the glittering days of pre-War Paris when the city was home to geniuses of modern culture—Picasso\, Josephine Baker\, Coco Chanel\, Le Corbusier\, and Frida Kahlo—through the tension-riddled cities and resorts of Europe on the eve of war\, to the harrowing years of the Nazi occupation of France. Author Michelle Young uncovers how an unlikely heroine infiltrated Nazi leadership\, risking everything\, to save the cultural legacy of the West.  \nMichelle Young is an award-winning journalist\, author\, and professor whose writing and photography has appeared in The Wall Street Journal\, The Guardian\, Hyperallergic\, The Forward\, and Narratively. She is a graduate of Harvard College in the History of Art and Architecture and holds a master’s degree from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture\, Planning and Preservation\, where she is a Professor of Architecture. She is the founder of the publication Untapped New York. She lives in the Berkshires\, Massachusetts. \n\n*New to 2025 – an exclusive opportunity for Mount Members!*\nThe new Rain or Shine Club Pass guarantees a seat at all eight Summer Author Series talks\, regardless of weather.
