SUMMARY:Kinetic Connections - Exploring Sculpture though Movement with Louise Heit
DESCRIPTION:All Ages \nJoin us for this fun\, intergenerational dance workshop. Participants will be led through movement activities to create mini dance studies in response to several works from the 2025 Sculpture at The Mount exhibition. This workshop will deepen participants’ experience of the sculptures and the natural surrounding environment through playful movement-generating activities. We will begin with a gentle warm up\, progress to exploring the sculptures through group movement improvisations and finally putting it all together to create dances. All are welcome\, all families\, all bodies\, all abilities\, ages 5-100 years old. No dance experience necessary. \n\nThis program is for children and adults of all ages. Youth participants must be accompanied by their grownups.\nThis is an outdoor program. In the event of inclement weather\, this workshop may be rescheduled for the following Sunday\, July 27\, at 2:30pm. Registrants will be notified by email about any changes to this program.\n\n\n \nLouise Heit is a dance artist/educator/choreographer/certified movement analyst summering in the Berkshires and wintering in Brooklyn\, NY. Her choreography has been seen in NYC at Center for Performance Research\, Union Street Studio\, Lenox Hill Neighborhood House\, 92Y/Fridays at Noon\, and in London at the Laban Centre for Movement and Dance. She has performed off Broadway with Adaptors Movement Theater (Bessie Award-winning)\, Pink Inc.\, and toured internationally with Marquis Studios. She holds a MA from the Laban Centre for Movement and Dance in London\, a CMA (Certified Movement Analyst) – NYC\, BFA in dance and theater from NYU and certificates from the Dance Education Laboratory at the 92Y and from Mark Morris Dance for PD (Parkinson’s Disease). Louise has taught dance and creative movement through Together-In-Dance\, 92Y Educational Outreach\, Lincoln Center Education\, Ballet Hispanico\, among others. Qigong\, a simpler form of Tai Chi\, combines gentle movements that mimic nature\, self-applied massage\, breathwork\, and meditation with the goal of improving and maintaining physical and emotional health. This self-care practice has been found to relieve stress and anxiety\, calm the mind\, and may help reduce pain\, improve mobility\, balance\, posture\, strength\, immunity and sleep.  \nTo register for this class\, email Jamie: greene01238@gmail.com \n\nThis program takes place beside the French Flower Garden and Pet Cemetery.\nWear comfortable shoes or bring a mat and practice barefoot. DESCRIPTION:This Sunday morning music and movement class introduces children ages 2-5 to a wide array of music from all different genres and origins through an equally wide array of fun\, age-appropriate\, student-oriented activities. Led by Ms. Julia of Berkshire Music School\, Tunes for Tots incorporates instruction in both English and Spanish. \n\nThis program takes place in the Stable Auditorium\, adjacent to the main Upper Lot and ticket booth.\nPre-registration is not required for this program.\nTunes for Tots is a series taking place on Sundays: June 29\, July 27\, and August 24\, 11:00am.\nQuestions? Julia taught elementary general music teacher\, is a bass player in college orchestras and local jazz ensembles\, and gigs as a performer as a guitarist and singer. In her role as a faculty member at Berkshire Music School\, Julia teaches a robust all-ages studio of private lessons on guitar\, bass\, and ukulele and also teaches various BMS pay-what-you-wish Community Group Classes including Youth Ukes! and Youth Rock Band. \n\nThe Berkshire Music School\, founded in 1940\, has been serving the greater Berkshire County community for 85 years out of our location at 30 Wendell Ave in Pittsfield. We offer private lessons on any instrument\, Community Group Classes on a pay-what-you-wish basis\, and special programs for people of all ages\, backgrounds\, and experience levels. DESCRIPTION:Stories & Stretches is an outdoor\, movement-based class designed for kids grades K-5 that blends storytelling and yoga brought to us by Kimberly Kidder\, owner of Flow on Main yoga studio. Stories & Stretches is designed to encourage physical and emotional awareness through fun and engaging experiences.  \nKimberly Kidder completed her Ashtanga vinyasa yoga teacher training in 2016 with Sacred Jade Yoga. DESCRIPTION:This Sunday morning music and movement class introduces children ages 2-5 to a wide array of music from all different genres and origins through an equally wide array of fun\, age-appropriate\, student-oriented activities. Led by Ms. Julia of Berkshire Music School\, Tunes for Tots incorporates instruction in both English and Spanish. \n\nThis program takes place in the Stable Auditorium\, adjacent to the main Upper Lot and ticket booth.\nPre-registration is not required for this program.\nTunes for Tots is a series taking place on Sundays: June 29\, July 27\, and August 31\, 11:00am.\nQuestions? Julia taught elementary general music teacher\, is a bass player in college orchestras and local jazz ensembles\, and gigs as a performer as a guitarist and singer. In her role as a faculty member at Berkshire Music School\, Julia teaches a robust all-ages studio of private lessons on guitar\, bass\, and ukulele and also teaches various BMS pay-what-you-wish Community Group Classes including Youth Ukes! and Youth Rock Band. \n\nThe Berkshire Music School\, founded in 1940\, has been serving the greater Berkshire County community for 85 years out of our location at 30 Wendell Ave in Pittsfield. We offer private lessons on any instrument\, Community Group Classes on a pay-what-you-wish basis\, and special programs for people of all ages\, backgrounds\, and experience levels. DESCRIPTION:Join experienced outdoor guide and certified Tai Chi instructor\, Mary Hannah Parkman\, for a guided trail walk and forest bathing experience with simple to follow standing Tai Chi warmups and movements from the 8 Treasures of Tai Chi. These practices calm and reset the nervous system\, bring balance to the body\, and help cultivate peace in the present moment.\nTai Chi\, a Chinese martial art\, was inspired by nature and designed to enliven “chi” or life force energy for greater health and vitality.\n\n\n\n\nPre-registration by email is encouraged: maryhannah.parkman@gmail.com\nPark in the main Upper Parking Lot. Meet by the Ticket booth.\nWalk length approximately 0.5 miles. Mostly level or gently sloping trail.\nDress for the weather in comfortable clothes suitable for movement.\nIf it is raining\, this outdoor experience will be abbreviated to one hour.\n\nSuggested donation: $20 per person. \nCash or Venmo @maryhannah-parkman (code: 0285) \n5% of donations will go to support hemlock tree conservation efforts at the New York State Hemlock Initiative \n\nMary Hannah Parkman\, is a certified Tai Chi Instructor and Yoga Teacher. After practicing Tai Chi and Qi Gong for 10 years\, she earned her first Tai Chi certification in 2023. When Mary Hannah teaches Tai Chi\, she draws on her 12 years of experience as a mind-body movement instructor\, teaching yoga in studios\, wellness resorts\, public schools\, summer camps and leading mindful outdoor experiences. DESCRIPTION:Enjoy the ancient Chinese\, mind-body practice of Qigong\, meaning “mastery of your life-force energy.” Qigong\, a simpler form of Tai Chi\, combines gentle movements that mimic nature\, self-applied massage\, breathwork\, and meditation with the goal of improving and maintaining physical and emotional health. This self-care practice has been found to relieve stress and anxiety\, calm the mind\, and may help reduce pain\, improve mobility\, balance\, posture\, strength\, immunity and sleep.  \nTo register for this class\, email Jamie: greene01238@gmail.com \n\nThis program takes place beside the French Flower Garden or at the Dell behind the Stable. Check in with the Ticket booth to confirm the location for each class.\nWear comfortable shoes or bring a mat and practice barefoot. She finds great joy volunteering to share the multitude of benefits for the mind\, body and spirit of this ancient form of moving meditation with others. Jamie encourages her students to incorporate simple\, effective Qigong techniques into their daily lives to enhance their physical and emotional well-being.
