DESCRIPTION:Embark on a reflective journey through the woods\, meadows\, and grounds of Edith Wharton’s estate. Join Nancy\, an experienced trail guide\, as she leads us In the Footsteps of Edith. Each mindful walk will begin with reading a brief passage of Wharton’s writing—a poem\, letter\, or excerpt from a work of fiction—to enhance your connection to nature and frame an intention for the experience. Throughout the journey\, participants are welcome to share reflections.  \nThis 90-minute hike takes place year-round and covers 1.5 miles on the trails of The Mount and adjacent properties. Participants are advised to be mindful of roots and uneven ground.\n– In the event of severe weather\, the hike may be postponed to the following Wednesday. DESCRIPTION:Enjoy a short family hike around The Mount’s wetlands and ponds while learning more about the amazing creatures that live there. A Mass Audubon naturalist will help you look for frogs\, fish\, salamanders\, aquatic bugs\, and other wild animals that call these places home. \n  \nIMPORTANT EVENT INFORMATION: \n\nThis program is designed for families with children. Each registration requires at least one adult and one child.\nThis program meets near The Mount’s Ticket Booth. Your guide will arrive 15-minutes before your program’s start time to welcome any early arrivals.\nPublic restrooms will not be available at this program; please plan accordingly.\nThis program covers up to one mile of unsurfaced trails containing a mix of flat ground and gradual slopes\, making it unsuitable for strollers. Some sections of the trail surface could contain exposed tree roots and rocks. Recent weather could make the trail muddy\, wet\, or slippery; please dress accordingly. SUMMARY:Forest Bathing and Tai Chi with Mary Hannah Parkman
DESCRIPTION:Ease into the afternoon with Forest Bathing and Tai Chi among the evergreen forests at The Mount. Mary Hannah will guide you in easy-to-follow Tai Chi movements to cultivate peace and vitality\, and a walking meditation to experience “the art of connecting with nature through our senses\,” according to Dr. Qing Lin\, Chairman of the Japanese Society for Forest Medicine.\n\n\nBy being in rhythm with nature\, we awaken not only our senses but also wonder\, inspiration\, and our innate capacity for healing. Nature offers us soothing sounds\, stable ground\, and blooms with expressions of harmony that guide us home to experience these qualities within ourselves.\n  \nIMPORTANT EVENT INFORMATION: \n\nPre-registration for this event is encouraged; there is a suggested donation of $20/per person\, payable on site by cash or Venmo. To register\, email: maryhannah.parkman@gmail.com\nThis program meets at The Mount’s Ticket Booth and takes place outdoors\, rain or shine. Please plan your apparel and footwear accordingly—wear comfortable clothes suitable for movement. In the event of rain\, this program will be abbreviated to one hour. In the event of extreme weather conditions\, such as excessive heat or severe thunderstorms\, this program will be canceled. Registrants will be notified by email by 12:00 pm the day of the program.\nThere is a short trail walk of 0.5 miles at the start of this program. The Mount’s trails cover a mix of woodchip paths\, grassy areas\, and mostly level woodland trails with some gentle slopes. When Mary Hannah teaches Tai Chi\, she draws on her 12 years of experience as a mind-body movement instructor\, teaching yoga in studios\, wellness resorts\, public schools\, summer camps\, and leading mindful outdoor experiences. She delights in sharing the peace and vitality that come from being in nature\, and volunteers to support conservation efforts for Eastern Hemlock trees. 5% of donations to this program will go to support the New York State Hemlock Initiative

Pre-registration is recommended.\nThis program meets near The Mount’s Ticket Booth. Your guide will arrive 15-minutes before your program’s start time to welcome any early arrivals.\nPublic restrooms will not be available at this program; please plan accordingly.\nThis program will cover up to 1.5 miles of unsurfaced trail\, with occasional steps off-trail. The program route contains a few hills or gradual inclines. The trail surface is uneven and could have tripping hazards such as exposed tree roots or rocks. Recent weather could make the trail muddy or slippery.
