Nature offers us soothing sounds\, stable ground\, and blooms with expressions of harmony that guide us home to experience these qualities within ourselves.\n\n\n  \n\n  \n\nIMPORTANT EVENT INFORMATION: \n\nPre-registration for this event is encouraged; there is a suggested donation of $20/per person\, payable on site by cash or Venmo. All registrations require at least one adult and one child. To keep group sizes conducive to firefly catching and viewing\, pre-registration is required.\nThis program meets in The Mount’s Stable Auditorium\, a climate-controlled venue adjacent to the parking lot. Doors open 15-minutes before the program’s start time.\nDepending on where the fireflies are flashing\, this program may cover up to 1 mile of wide\, gravel-paved trails that are level or gradually sloping. Some sections of the trail may have exposed tree roots or rocks. After practicing Tai Chi and Qi Gong for 10 years\, she earned her first Tai Chi certification in 2023. When Mary Hannah teaches Tai Chi\, she draws on her 12 years of experience as a mind-body movement instructor\, teaching yoga in studios\, wellness resorts\, public schools\, summer camps\, and leading mindful outdoor experiences. She delights in sharing the peace and vitality that come from being in nature\, and volunteers to support conservation efforts for Eastern Hemlock trees. 5% of donations to this program will go to support the New York State Hemlock Initiative

DESCRIPTION:Enjoy the ancient Chinese\, mind-body practice of Qigong\, meaning “mastery of your life-force energy.” Qigong\, a simpler form of Tai Chi\, combines gentle movements that mimic nature\, self-applied massage\, breathwork\, and meditation with the goal of improving and maintaining physical and emotional health. This self-care practice has been found to relieve stress and anxiety\, calm the mind\, and may help reduce pain\, improve mobility\, balance\, posture\, strength\, immunity\, and sleep. \n  \nIMPORTANT EVENT INFORMATION: \n\nBeginners are welcome! She also holds a certificate from the eCornell T. Colin Campbell Center for Plant-Based Nutrition. Jamie\, a former clinical researcher\, discovered the power of Qigong and nutrition to heal from within during her retirement. She finds great joy volunteering to share the multitude of benefits for the mind\, body\, and spirit of this ancient form of moving meditation with others. Jamie encourages her students to incorporate simple\, effective Qigong techniques into their daily lives to enhance their physical and emotional well-being. She has shared her love of practicing qigong outdoors at The Mount\, the Berkshire Botanical Garden\, her community by Goose Pond in Lee\, as well as at nature preserves in Florida.

DESCRIPTION:Explore the vibrant plant life of The Mount with the guidance of naturalist and author Vanessa Chakour. This guided walk along the woodland trails will highlight edible\, medicinal\, and at-risk plants—species who shape the landscape and quietly sustain us. Along the way\, participants will be prompted to deepen their connection to place through creative writing prompts\, imagining the world from the perspectives of plants as a way to see\, understand\, and relate to the natural world.   \nThis workshop blends plant knowledge\, creative inquiry\, and embodied presence. No prior writing or botanical experience is necessary—just curiosity and a willingness to listen to the land. Her books Awakening Artemis and Earthly Bodies reflect this integration\, exploring personal and ecological healing through kinship with the more‑than‑human world. She has collaborated with organizations such as Project Coyote and the Jaguar Rescue Center\, and her writing has appeared in Orion\, Terrain\, Psyche/Aeon\, Yes! Magazine\, Beyond with Jane Ratcliffe\, and Psychology Today. With her partner\, she co-stewards a 270-acre forest\, actively planting native species and rewilding the land after centuries of colonial exploitation. Based in Western Massachusetts\, Vanessa recently founded HEX Boxing Club\, where boxing is taught as both a healing practice and a disciplined craft\, offering amateur and professional skills alongside embodied ecological practice.
