Mary Hannah will guide you in easy-to-follow Tai Chi movements to cultivate peace and vitality\, and a walking meditation to experience “the art of connecting with nature through our senses\,” according to Dr. Qing Lin\, Chairman of the Japanese Society for Forest Medicine.\n\nBy being in rhythm with nature\, we awaken not only our senses but also wonder\, inspiration\, and our innate capacity for healing. Nature offers us soothing sounds\, stable ground\, and blooms with expressions of harmony that guide us home to experience these qualities within ourselves.\n\n\n  \n\n  \n\nIMPORTANT EVENT INFORMATION: \n\nPre-registration for this event is encouraged; there is a suggested donation of $20/per person.\nThis program meets at The Mount’s Ticket Booth and takes place outdoors\, rain or shine. Please plan your apparel and footwear accordingly—wear comfortable clothes suitable for movement. In the event of rain\, this program will be abbreviated to one hour. In the event of extreme weather conditions\, such as excessive heat or severe thunderstorms\, this program will be canceled. DESCRIPTION:Give the Eastern Hemlock trees at The Mount a lift! They need your help to travel to North Carolina for a leading role in reforestation efforts at the NC Forest Service. How do trees travel? Through their seeds! Join us for this family-friendly hemlock cone collection event. Little tiny hands are perfect for picking ripe cones off of tree branches. Our goal is to collect five pounds of cones with their seeds tucked safely inside and send them off to be planted to continue their legacy of creating unique forest ecosystems for hundreds of interdependent species to thrive across the East Coast.  \n  \nIMPORTANT EVENT INFORMATION: \n\nCollect Little Cones is intended for audiences of all ages! Youth must be accompanied by a grown-up.\nThis program meets at the Dell Stage and takes place outdoors\, rain or shine. Please plan your apparel and footwear accordingly! DESCRIPTION:Early fall is one of the best times to notice fungi—and the variety can be surprising. This beginner-friendly hike explores the basics of mushroom identification and introduces the many roles fungi play in healthy forests. Your naturalist will share recent research and useful resources so you can keep learning long after the walk. \nPlease note: This program does not cover foraging edible mushrooms and will take place at a location where collecting mushrooms is prohibited. However\, you will leave with a stronger appreciation and understanding of these fascinating fungi\, not to mention a few keepsake photo opportunities. \n  \nIMPORTANT EVENT INFORMATION: \n\nThis program is designed for adult audiences; pre-registration is required.\nMeet in The Mount’s Main Parking Lot near the Ticket Booth.\nDepending on where the fungi are flourishing\, this program may cover up to 1.5 miles of wide\, gently sloped trails. Some sections of the trail may have exposed tree roots or rocks. Consider bringing trekking poles if you typically use them on uneven ground.\nIf the weather forecast or other factors affect this program\, your guide will contact you via email the day before your program with more information.\nBring a hand lens or magnifying glass if you have one\, and feel free to borrow a loaner if needed.\nThis program does not cover foraging edible mushrooms; even so\, participants are not permitted to eat or sample anything from The Mount’s landscape. Mary Hannah will guide you in easy-to-follow Tai Chi movements to cultivate peace and vitality\, and a walking meditation to experience “the art of connecting with nature through our senses\,” according to Dr. Qing Lin\, Chairman of the Japanese Society for Forest Medicine.\n\nBy being in rhythm with nature\, we awaken not only our senses but also wonder\, inspiration\, and our innate capacity for healing. Nature offers us soothing sounds\, stable ground\, and blooms with expressions of harmony that guide us home to experience these qualities within ourselves.\n\n\n  \n\n  \n\nIMPORTANT EVENT INFORMATION: \n\nPre-registration for this event is encouraged; there is a suggested donation of $20/per person.\nThis program meets at The Mount’s Ticket Booth and takes place outdoors\, rain or shine. Please plan your apparel and footwear accordingly—wear comfortable clothes suitable for movement. In the event of rain\, this program will be abbreviated to one hour. In the event of extreme weather conditions\, such as excessive heat or severe thunderstorms\, this program will be canceled. Registrants will be notified by email by 12:00 pm the day of the program.\nThere is a short trail walk of 0.5 miles at the start of this program. The Mount’s trails cover a mix of woodchip paths\, grassy areas\, and mostly level woodland trails with some gentle slopes. Surfaces may be uneven\, and participants are advised to be mindful of exposed roots and natural variations underfoot.\nWhile The Mount is a dog-friendly property\, dogs are not permitted in this program.\nQuestions? After practicing Tai Chi and Qi Gong for 10 years\, she earned her first Tai Chi certification in 2023. When Mary Hannah teaches Tai Chi\, she draws on her 12 years of experience as a mind-body movement instructor\, teaching yoga in studios\, wellness resorts\, public schools\, summer camps\, and leading mindful outdoor experiences. She delights in sharing the peace and vitality that come from being in nature\, and volunteers to support conservation efforts for Eastern Hemlock trees. 5% of donations to this program will go to support the New York State Hemlock Initiative

Join Nancy\, The Mount’s trail guide\, as she leads us In the Footsteps of Edith\, a mindful walk that will begin with reading a brief passage of Wharton’s writing—a poem\, letter\, or excerpt from a work of fiction—to enhance your connection to nature and frame an intention for the experience. Throughout the journey\, participants are welcome to share reflections.  \n  \nIMPORTANT EVENT INFORMATION: \n\nIn the Footsteps of Edith is a free program with limited capacity – registration is required.\nThis program meets at The Mount’s Ticket Booth and takes place outdoors\, rain or shine. Registrants will be notified of any changes by email by 8:00 am the day of the program.\nThe 1.5-mile trail walk covers a mix of woodland trails of uneven terrain\, bridges\, steps\, and gentle slopes – perfect for beginning/intermediate hikers. Surfaces may be uneven\, and participants are advised to be mindful of exposed roots and natural variations underfoot.
