This free\, hands-on poetry workshop welcomes adults and high school and college students of all experience levels. Colin is a multidisciplinary artist and poet of Haitian descent and the author of Dreaming in Kreyol. Guided by the belief that storytelling holds transformative power\, her work explores vulnerability\, grief\, trauma\, healing\, and liberation while engaging the intersections of race\, class\, gender\, and her Haitian heritage. She is currently a writer for Metroland Now’s poetry column. A Cave Canem\, VONA\, and New York State Writers Institute fellow\, her poetry appears in journals such as Trolley Literary Journal\, The Eco Theo Review\, Portrait of New England\, and The Porter Gulch Review. \n​Colin lives in New York’s Capital Region\, where she maintains an active studio practice and serves on the boards of Black Dimensions in Art\, Inc. and the Hart Cluett Museum. She is a founding member of the Social Justice Artists Collective. A lover of bodies of water and early mornings\, she believes creativity is a pathway to healing and collective freedom. Through storytelling\, we remember our connection to one another and imagine more liberated futures.

Along the way\, poets pause to share original work inspired by place\, movement\, and the natural world. Featuring special guest poet Danielle Colin\, who will be leading a poetry workshop at 11:00 am. DESCRIPTION:Tickets available September 1! \nJoin Community Access to the Arts (CATA) at The Mount for a moving reading of poetry and prose by participants in the CATA Writers’ Workshop. Through work that is heartfelt\, thought-provoking\, and often infused with humor\, these writers share distinct perspectives while illuminating the universal experiences that connect us all. \nA complimentary reception will follow the reading. Join us! \nCommunity Access to the Arts (CATA) nurtures and celebrates the creativity of people with disabilities through the transformative power of the arts. Since 2005\, participants in CATA’s weekly Writers’ Workshop have explored a wide range of expressive forms—poetry\, haiku\, autobiography\, and short fiction—while developing their unique voices. Led by faculty artist Janet Reich Elsbach\, an accomplished local writer and dedicated teacher\, the workshop offers an imaginative\, supportive environment where each writer is encouraged to refine their craft and cultivate an individual style. \nRegistration opens late July. \nIMPORTANT EVENT INFORMATION: \n\nThis program takes place in The Mount’s Stable Auditorium\, a climate-controlled\, 140-seat\, fully accessible venue adjacent to the parking lot. Accessible parking is available directly outside the Auditorium doors.\nCapacity is limited—registration is required.\nASL interpretation and open captioning will be provided during the reading.
