SUMMARY:Workshop | Writing Your Roots with Rev. Eileen Mahoney
DESCRIPTION:Join Rev. Eileen Mahoney\, expressive arts therapist\, writer\, and Buddhist practitioner in the Plum Village tradition\, for a writing workshop blending the wisdom of nature with the power of words. This half-day program begins with guided forest meditation to ground your senses followed by thoughtfully crafted prompts to spark meaningful contemplation. Whether you’re an experienced writer\, budding poet\, or a curious soul\, this workshop offers a space to explore the natural world\, connect with the stillness\, and rise up like a rooted tree.  \nRev. Eileen Mahoney is an Interfaith Interspiritual minister who offers workshops and counseling regionally and internationally. She is ordained in Thich Nhat Hanh’s Order of Engaged Buddhism and an initiate of the Sufi Order Inayatiaya. She is also a Certified Trauma Informed Expressive Arts Therapist and Mindfulness Teacher. Eileen’s forthcoming book\, Viriditas\, the Greening of the Soul\, outlines a process combining meditation and the arts with spiritual exploration to refresh and enliven our souls in the face of today’s challenges. SUMMARY:Youth Workshop | Adventures in Poetry: A Nature Writing Workshop with Margaret Young
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, August 17\, 2:30 pm\nAges 8 – 12\, participants must be accompanied by their grownups \nIn this Sunday afternoon workshop\, students will create poems inspired by nature. With the gardens and woods of The Mount as our classroom\, we’ll explore different poetic forms and strategies\, writing our way from soil to sky and back again. No poetry writing experience necessary; be sure to bring your imagination.  \nMargaret Young’s poetry collections include Blight Summer\, How Else Can We Know What’s Beautiful?\, and the forthcoming The Water Bear. She has taught drama\, creative writing\, and ecopoetics in settings ranging from preschools to graduate programs. Young is on the faculty of the Global Center for Advanced Studies and lives in Beverly\, Massachusetts.  \n\nThe Community Voices Project fosters meaningful collaborations between The Mount and regional community partners. Through discussions\, workshops\, readings\, and events\, the Project aims to nurture and support the development of bold\, new storytelling that strengthens diverse voices and incites cross-cultural exchange. \n \nThe Community Voices Project is supported by a grant awarded by Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation’s Arts Build Community initiative with funding from the Barr Foundation. \n\nREGISTER HERE \n  \nThere is a $5 materials fee for this workshop.\nThese are challenging times for parents.
