DESCRIPTION:Experience a magical summer light show with your family and learn how best to view or gently catch and release fireflies! After a short presentation\, we’ll take an evening walk in the meadows for firefly viewing while keeping our eyes open for the stars\, planets\, and twilight wildlife. \n  \nIMPORTANT EVENT INFORMATION: \n\nThis is a program designed for families with children ages 5-17. All registrations require at least one adult and one child. To keep group sizes conducive to firefly catching and viewing\, pre-registration is required.\nThis program meets in The Mount’s Stable Auditorium\, a climate-controlled venue adjacent to the parking lot. Doors open 15-minutes before the program’s start time.\nDepending on where the fireflies are flashing\, this program may cover up to 1 mile of wide\, gravel-paved trails that are level or gradually sloping. Some sections of the trail may have exposed tree roots or rocks. If the weather forecast or other factors affect this program\, your guide will contact you via email the day before your program with more information.\nWhile nighttime programs can be great fun\, make sure your group is prepared for mosquitoes\, which can be more active during these hours. We recommend wearing bug spray as well as long sleeves and pants. Throughout the journey\, participants are welcome to share reflections. \nThis 90-minute hike takes place year-round and covers 1.5 miles on the trails of The Mount and adjacent properties. Please plan accordingly! \nNancy Seguin is a passionate explorer of nature\, history\, and cultural landscapes. As a Hiking Guide for OLLI at BCC\, Berkshire Natural Resource Council\, and previously with Berkshire Camino\, she creates mindful learning experiences\, bringing communities together to enjoy the outdoors in all seasons. \n\nThis 90-minute hike takes place year-round and covers 1.5 miles on the trails of The Mount and adjacent properties. In her role as a faculty member at Berkshire Music School\, Julia teaches a robust all-ages studio of private lessons on guitar\, bass\, and ukulele and also teaches various BMS pay-what-you-wish Community Group Classes including Youth Ukes! and Youth Rock Band. \n\nThe Berkshire Music School\, founded in 1940\, has been serving the greater Berkshire County community for 85 years out of our location at 30 Wendell Ave in Pittsfield. We offer private lessons on any instrument\, Community Group Classes on a pay-what-you-wish basis\, and special programs for people of all ages\, backgrounds\, and experience levels. DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, August 17\, 2:30 pm\nAges 8 – 12\, participants must be accompanied by their grownups \nIn this Sunday afternoon workshop\, students will create poems inspired by nature. With the gardens and woods of The Mount as our classroom\, we’ll explore different poetic forms and strategies\, writing our way from soil to sky and back again. No poetry writing experience necessary; be sure to bring your imagination.  \nMargaret Young’s poetry collections include Blight Summer\, How Else Can We Know What’s Beautiful?\, and the forthcoming The Water Bear. She has taught drama\, creative writing\, and ecopoetics in settings ranging from preschools to graduate programs. Young is on the faculty of the Global Center for Advanced Studies and lives in Beverly\, Massachusetts.  \n\nThe Community Voices Project fosters meaningful collaborations between The Mount and regional community partners. She’s hosted several weekly news shows on public radio\, including AK (Alaska Public Media) and Metro Connection (WAMU 88.5)\, along with podcasts for the Folger Shakespeare Library and Slate Magazine. Her first book\, Onions and Garlic\, was adapted from a Circle Round episode of the same name and published by PJ Library. She’s also the author of the Circle Round picture books series\, published by Storey Publishing. Rebecca holds a B.A. from Columbia University and an MFA in Creative Nonfiction Writing from the University of Iowa. She lives in the Berkshires with her husband\, composer Eric Shimelonis\, and their nine-year-old son. \nEric Shimelonis is a composer\, musician and audio producer whose work has wowed audiences on stage\, screen and over the airwaves. Audiences have enjoyed his classical compositions at the Juilliard School\, the Rattlestick New Music Series\, the Kennedy Center and at a sold-out concert at Carnegie Hall starring Oscar winner F. SUMMARY:Stories & Stretches with Flow on Main
DESCRIPTION:Stories & Stretches is an outdoor\, movement-based class designed for kids grades K-5 that blends storytelling and yoga brought to us by Kimberly Kidder\, owner of Flow on Main yoga studio. Participants will engage in coordinated movements\, playful games\, mindful meditations\, and breathing exercises. Stories & Stretches is designed to encourage physical and emotional awareness through fun and engaging experiences.  \nKimberly Kidder completed her Ashtanga vinyasa yoga teacher training in 2016 with Sacred Jade Yoga. With additional certifications in Kids Yoga and Functional Movement\, Kimberly loves working with children and adults. Visit the Flow on Main website to learn more about Kimberly’s offerings at her Dalton studio. \n \n\nThis program takes place on the Main House lawn beside the French Flower Garden.\nStories & Stretches is intended for elementary-aged youth accompanied by an adult.\nStories & Stretches is an outdoor program. In the event of rain\, it may be moved to the Stable Auditorium\, which is adjacent to the parking lot. In the event of extreme weather\, it will be cancelled. Registrants will be notified by email about any changes to this program or its location.\n\nQuestions? If you have books your kids have outgrown\, this is the perfect chance to give them a second life. All ages\, reading levels\, and languages are welcome! \nPlease drop off your gently loved books at The Mount anytime this summer.
