His dynamic\, interactive bilingual performances aim to dissolve borders and foster cross-cultural connections. \nGet ready for a day of music\, stories\, and hands-on fun at The Mount’s second annual multicultural Community Day\, Saturday\, August 9\, 11:00 am – 2:00 pm! \nIMPORTANT EVENT INFORMATION: \n\nThis performance takes place in The Mount’s Event Tent\, a large-scale\, open-air tent adjacent to the parking lot. Then\, explore the grounds and dive into interactive stations hosted by community partners where you’ll create art\, meet animals\, complete scavenger hunts\, make music\, and tell stories. Visit every station to receive a special prize! Ice cream and food trucks will be on hand to keep everyone nourished. \nThe Mansion self-guided tours are FREE 11 am – 3 pm on Community Day. \nJoin us for a day packed with creativity\, culture\, and joy for all ages! Activities include: a Community Resource Fair; a family concert featuring MISTER G; Afro-Peruvian drumming with SíncoPaz; learning about life in the pond with MassAudubon; free\, self-guided tours of The Mount; baby goats from HomeFarm; a bilingual Children’s Book Swap; and more! \nIMPORTANT EVENT INFORMATION: \n\nCommunity Day takes place throughout the grounds of The Mount\, which covers a mix of woodchip paths\, grassy areas\, dirt roads\, and mostly level woodland trails. SUMMARY:Twilight Bat Watch with Mass Audubon
DESCRIPTION:As evening settles in\, bats begin their nightly flight over open meadows. This family-friendly program begins with a short\, welcoming introduction to bat natural history and common misconceptions\, then moves outdoors to watch and listen for bats during prime twilight hours. \nDepending on conditions\, your naturalist may use a bat detector to help ‘translate’ bat activity into sounds you can experience. You’ll develop a new appreciation for how bats support healthy ecosystems and simple ways to help them close to home. \n  \nIMPORTANT EVENT INFORMATION: \n\nThis program is designed for families with children ages 4-17. Pre-registration is required.\nThis program meets in The Mount’s Stable Auditorium\, a climate-controlled venue adjacent to the parking lot. Doors open 15 minutes before the program’s start time.\nDepending on where the bats are flying\, this program may cover up to one mile of wide\, gently sloped trails. Some sections of the trail may have exposed tree roots or rocks. If the weather forecast or other factors affect this program\, your guide will contact you via email the day before your program with more information.\nWhile programs at dusk can be great fun\, make sure your group is prepared for mosquitoes\, which can be more active during these hours. At Berkshire Music School\, Julia teaches a vibrant\, all-ages studio of private lessons in guitar\, bass\, and ukulele\, and leads a range of pay-what-you-wish community group classes\, including Youth Ukes! and Youth Rock Band. \nFounded in 1940\, Berkshire Music School has been serving the greater Berkshire County community for over 80 years. We offer private lessons on any instrument\, Community Group Classes on a pay-what-you-wish basis\, and special programs for people of all ages\, backgrounds\, and experience levels. We believe that every student\, no matter their finances\, should be able to receive a quality music education.

A former public radio reporter and host\, Rebecca has brought thousands of stories to life on such national programs as Morning Edition\, All Things Considered\, Here & Now\, The Splendid Table\, and Marketplace. She’s hosted several weekly news shows on public radio\, including AK (Alaska Public Media) and Metro Connection (WAMU 88.5)\, along with podcasts for the Folger Shakespeare Library and Slate Magazine. Her first book\, Onions and Garlic\, was adapted from a Circle Round episode of the same name and published by PJ Library. She’s also the author of the Circle Round picture books series\, published by Storey Publishing. Rebecca holds a B.A. from Columbia University and an MFA in Creative Nonfiction Writing from the University of Iowa. She lives in the Berkshires with her husband\, composer Eric Shimelonis\, and their nine-year-old son.  \nEric Shimelonis is a composer\, musician\, and audio producer whose work has wowed audiences on stage\, screen\, and over the airwaves. Audiences have enjoyed his classical compositions at the Juilliard School\, the Rattlestick New Music Series\, the Kennedy Center\, and at a sold-out concert at Carnegie Hall starring Oscar winner F. Murray Abraham. With more than 300 sound designs in the theater\, Eric has won a Helen Hayes Award and been nominated for Drama Desk\, Lucille Lortel\, Big Easy\, and Henry Hewes Design Awards. Film highlights include the features International Falls and Winter Passing\, for which he performed a duet with Will Ferrell.
