As a pianist\, composer\, and bandleader\, she has built an accomplished career\, recording 15 albums as a leader—including two co-led with legendary alto saxophonist Lee Konitz—and touring internationally. Stern has also accompanied major artists such as Gerry Mulligan\, Diane Schuur\, and David “Fathead” Newman. Beyond performance\, she has championed women bandleaders by founding two long-running festivals—Wall Street Jazz Festival and LuluFest—devoted exclusively to their work. Based in Austin and Pittsfield\, she’s vigorously continuing to perform and compose\, most recently leading her quintet through a set of new tunes in preparation for a recording. Stern’s career reflects a lifelong pursuit of creative freedom on her own terms\, and her generous\, mentoring presence continues to inspire fellow musicians and students alike. Watch for LuluFest coming to Lenox this September!  \nAlex Coke is a tenor saxophonist\, flutist\, and composer based in Austin and Amsterdam. An improviser at heart\, Coke has led an eclectic range of projects\, including Live Action Brass Band\, Leadbelly Legacy Band\, New Texas Swing\, a jazz adaptation of A Child’s Christmas in Wales\, and Worthy Constituents with pianist Rich Harney. Since 2022 he has co-led the Alex Coke & Carl Michel Sextet. He has collaborated widely with visual artists\, dancers\, poets\, and ensembles across the U.S.\, Europe\, and West Africa\, including the Creative Opportunity Orchestra\, Willem Breuker Kollektief\, and many others. A 2020 Austin Jazz Society Hall of Fame inductee\, Coke’s recording and performance credits are extensive and internationally acclaimed.

DESCRIPTION:Ease into the afternoon with Forest Bathing and Tai Chi among the evergreen forests at The Mount. Mary Hannah will guide you in easy-to-follow Tai Chi movements to cultivate peace and vitality\, and a walking meditation to experience “the art of connecting with nature through our senses\,” according to Dr. Qing Lin\, Chairman of the Japanese Society for Forest Medicine.\n\nBy being in rhythm with nature\, we awaken not only our senses but also wonder\, inspiration\, and our innate capacity for healing. Nature offers us soothing sounds\, stable ground\, and blooms with expressions of harmony that guide us home to experience these qualities within ourselves.\n\n\n  \n\n  \n\nIMPORTANT EVENT INFORMATION: \n\nPre-registration for this event is encouraged; there is a suggested donation of $20/per person\, payable on site by cash or Venmo. When Mary Hannah teaches Tai Chi\, she draws on her 12 years of experience as a mind-body movement instructor\, teaching yoga in studios\, wellness resorts\, public schools\, summer camps\, and leading mindful outdoor experiences. She delights in sharing the peace and vitality that come from being in nature\, and volunteers to support conservation efforts for Eastern Hemlock trees. 5% of donations to this program will go to support the New York State Hemlock Initiative

DESCRIPTION:Feel a tingle down your spine as our guides lead you through The Mount’s darkened halls\, sharing stories of the many eerie encounters that have been reported over the years. Ghost tours start in July and continue through Halloween! Terrain may be uneven\, and stairs are required to experience the full tour. DESCRIPTION:Feel a tingle down your spine as our guides lead you through The Mount’s darkened halls\, sharing stories of the many eerie encounters that have been reported over the years. Ghost tours start in July and continue through Halloween! Advance registration is required. \n  \nIMPORTANT EVENT INFORMATION: \n\nGhost Tours of The Mount last approximately two hours and include a half-mile walk – rain-or-shine – on a gently sloped gravel road. Terrain may be uneven\, and stairs are required to experience the full tour. Please plan your apparel and footwear accordingly!\nParking for Ghost Tours is in The Mount’s lower lot\, adjacent to the Mansion. An attendant will direct you from the Ticket Booth.\nThis tour contains adult content that is not appropriate for young audiences under 12 years old. Families should consider attending one of our Ghost Tours for Kids.\nIn the event of severe weather\, Ghost Tours may be canceled. DESCRIPTION:Enjoy the ancient Chinese\, mind-body practice of Qigong\, meaning “mastery of your life-force energy.” Qigong\, a simpler form of Tai Chi\, combines gentle movements that mimic nature\, self-applied massage\, breathwork\, and meditation with the goal of improving and maintaining physical and emotional health. This self-care practice has been found to relieve stress and anxiety\, calm the mind\, and may help reduce pain\, improve mobility\, balance\, posture\, strength\, immunity\, and sleep. \n  \nIMPORTANT EVENT INFORMATION: \n\nBeginners are welcome! Pre-registration for this event is encouraged. She has shared her love of practicing qigong outdoors at The Mount\, the Berkshire Botanical Garden\, her community by Goose Pond in Lee\, as well as at nature preserves in Florida.

Join us at the Terrace Café on the first Wednesday of each month\, June through October\, as local actors bring quintessential Edith Wharton short stories to life. Arrive early to enjoy the spectacular view and refreshments from the Café\, open at 4:30 pm. \nIn August\, Tod Randolph returns to read The Mission of Jane. Realizing his marriage has failed and his wife is lonely\, Mr. Lethridge agrees to her latest request: to adopt a baby. What could go wrong? \n  \nIMPORTANT EVENT INFORMATION: \n\nThis one-hour reading takes place on The Mount’s Terrace under an open-air shade tent. Please be mindful of the weather and plan accordingly! The Terrace is located on the second floor of the Mansion. An elevator is available to assist those with mobility concerns.\nPlease park in the Upper Parking Lot. We recommend arriving 15 minutes early to allow time to enjoy the quarter-mile walk down the driveway to the Mansion. Golf carts run throughout the day if you require assistance to the event location. Accessible parking is available in spaces adjacent to the Mansion.\nThe bar at the Terrace Café will be open 4:30 – 5:30 pm.\nIn the event of extreme weather\, such as excessive heat or severe thunderstorms\, this program may be moved indoors to The Mount’s Stable Auditorium. All ticket holders will be notified by email at least two hours before the scheduled start time if a venue change is necessary. Those wishing to cancel their ticket orders will receive full refunds. Also at The Mount\, she played Osric Dane in a stage adaptation of Xingu for the inaugural production of The Wharton Salon in 2007\, and Mrs. Wharton in The Inner House\, a one-woman biographical play by Dennis Krausnick\, in 2012. She has been a member of Shakespeare & Company in Lenox since 1991\, where she has played numerous lead roles in both Shakespearean and contemporary plays\, directed several readings and one full production\, and taught and directed in the actor training programs. She lives in Great Barrington.

SUMMARY:Reshaping our Relationship with the Future with author Anne Therese Gennari
DESCRIPTION:The future is wildly uncertain\, and while that can be cause for anxiety and stress\, it may also serve as our biggest source of inspiration. What happens when we make space—internally and collectively—for futures that haven’t yet been named? How do we learn to trust what we cannot fully imagine\, and still lead our lives with optimism\, resilience\, and hope?   \nThis creative writing workshop invites you to engage in a gentle inquiry into how we relate to the future. We’ll begin with an introduction to the psychological barriers that keep us tethered to old narratives\, exploring the quiet power we hold not only to envision different futures but to practice showing up in ways that allow them to take shape. Through a guided visualization and reflective writing prompts\, we’ll envision what a renewed relationship with the unknown might look and feel like—on the page and in daily life. The goal of this workshop is to leave feeling expanded\, grounded\, and reconnected to a sense of agency and optimism.  \n  \nIMPORTANT EVENT INFORMATION: \n\nThis three-hour workshop takes place in The Mount’s Stable Auditorium\, a climate-controlled auditorium and classroom adjacent to the Main Parking Lot. DESCRIPTION:Curated by André Bernard\, former Vice President of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation\, In Conversation features great thinkers and influential voices whose contributions shape our culture today. Crossing the fields of politics\, journalism\, humanities\, and the arts\, these conversations will explore fresh perspectives that spark curiosity and ignite new ways of thinking about our most pressing challenges. \nDavid H. Petraeus is a retired four-star U.S. Army general\, military strategist\, and public servant whose career spanned over 37 years. Petraeus became a central figure in the post-9/11 era\, leading the surge of U.S. forces in Iraq as commander of Multi-National Force–Iraq\, then commanding U.S. Central Command\, and later overseeing NATO and U.S. forces in Afghanistan. In 2011\, he was confirmed unanimously by the Senate to serve as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency\, and he resigned the following year. Since leaving government\, Petraeus has worked in the private sector\, academia\, and think tanks\, serving as chairman of KKR Global Institute and as a senior fellow at Yale’s Jackson School of Global Affairs. His bestselling book\, Conflict: The Evolution of Warfare from 1945 to Gaza\, co-authored with Andrew Roberts\, was published by HarperCollins in 2023.  \nThe Mount wishes to thank Robert Solerno and Margaret Skaggs\, and Barbara J.
