DESCRIPTION:Embark on a reflective journey through the woods\, meadows\, and grounds of Edith Wharton’s estate. Join Nancy\, an experienced trail guide\, as she leads us In the Footsteps of Edith. Each mindful walk will begin with reading a brief passage of Wharton’s writing—a poem\, letter\, or excerpt from a work of fiction—to enhance your connection to nature and frame an intention for the experience. At the conclusion of the journey\, participants are welcome to share reflections.  \nNancy Seguin is a lifelong volunteer and passionate explorer of nature\, history\, and cultural venues. An experienced Hiking Guide\, she enjoys creating fun and mindful learning experiences while bringing communities together in a scenic setting.   Nancy is a member of various local outdoor recreation and conservation organizations appreciating an active lifestyle of walking/hiking\, biking\, and qigong with others of shared interest.  Previously\, she was a Trail Steward for North County Land Trust and led group hikes for Berkshire Camino.  She’s hoping to meet you on the trails soon!  \n\nThis is a free program\, but capacity is limited! Join today.\n\n– This 90-minute hike takes place year-round on the trails of The Mount and adjacent properties. Please plan accordingly!\n– At this time of year\, our trails are covered in snow and possible ice. Winter boots with traction are essential for your safety; Yaktrax or microspikes\, along with walking poles\, are recommended.\n– Terrain is comprised of level and gently sloping trail\, perfect for beginning/intermediate hikers. Participants are advised to be mindful of roots and uneven ground.\n– In the event of severe weather\, the hike may be postponed to the following Wednesday. Registrants will be notified by email by 9:00 am the day of the hike.\n– While The Mount is a dog-friendly property\, dogs are not permitted in this program.\n– Questions? DESCRIPTION:Due to extreme cold temperatures\, the Forest Bathing and Tai Chi session on January 25 is cancelled. \n\nEnliven your senses\, refresh your mood\, and boost your immune system with Forest Bathing and Tai Chi among the verdant forests at The Mount. Mary Hannah will guide you in easy to follow Tai Chi movements to cultivate vitality and a walking meditation to experience “The art of connecting with nature through our senses” – Dr. Qing Lin\, Chairman of the Japanese Society for Forest Medicine\n\nBy allowing space to be present in nature and move with nature\, we awaken not only our senses but also wonder\, curiosity and our innate capacity for healing. Nature offers us soothing sounds\, stable ground\, and expressions of harmony that guide us home to experience these qualities within ourselves.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPre-registration by email is encouraged: maryhannah.parkman@gmail.com\nPark in Upper Lot and meet by the Ticket Booth.\nThis program covers approximately 0.5 miles on mostly level or gently sloping trail.\nDress for the weather in warm layers suitable for movement.\nWarm sturdy footwear is recommended — Micro-spikes are suggested on icy terrain.\nThis program may be cancelled in the event of severe inclement weather. When Mary Hannah teaches Tai Chi\, she draws on over a decade of experience as a mind-body movement instructor\, teaching yoga in studios\, wellness resorts\, public schools\, summer camps and leading mindful outdoor experiences. She delights in sharing the peace\, vitality and inspiration that comes from being in nature through her teaching and artwork.
