CANCELED | Build a Band with Berkshire Music School

June 22 @ 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm

Unfortunately, this event has been canceled. We are working with Berkshire Music School to reschedule — thanks for your understanding and support!

In this Sunday afternoon workshop led by Ms. Julia of Berkshire Music School, we will listen, analyze and learn to play songs of your choice. Participants are welcome to bring their own instruments, or can choose from a selection of instruments provided by the instructor. Guitar, bass, drums, percussion, keyboard/piano, and voices are all welcome! Unleash your inner rockstar in this hands-on, 90-minute intensive music workshop.

  • This program takes place in the Stable Auditorium, adjacent to the main Upper Lot and ticket booth.
  • This workshop is designed for kids ages 12-18.
  • Participants are encouraged to bring their own instruments; Berkshire Music School will provide an extra selection.

Julia Shippee has been awarded a MM in Music Education from the University of Florida and a BA in Music Education from the University of New Hampshire. Julia taught elementary general music teacher, is a bass player in college orchestras and local jazz ensembles, and gigs as a performer as a guitarist and singer. In her role as a faculty member at Berkshire Music School, Julia teaches a robust all-ages studio of private lessons on guitar, bass, and ukulele and also teaches various BMS pay-what-you-wish Community Group Classes including Youth Ukes! and Youth Rock Band.

The Berkshire Music School, founded in 1940, has been serving the greater Berkshire County community for 85 years out of our location at 30 Wendell Ave in Pittsfield. We offer private lessons on any instrument, Community Group Classes on a pay-what-you-wish basis, and special programs for people of all ages, backgrounds, and experience levels. We believe that every student, no matter finances, should be able to receive a quality music education.

This program is supported by a grant awarded by Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation’s Arts Build Community initiative with funding from the Barr Foundation.

CALL FOR CHILDREN’S BOOKS!

This August, The Mount is hosting a Children’s Book Swap as part of our Community Day celebration! We’re collecting gently loved children’s books to share the joy of reading with other families in our community. If you have books your kids have outgrown, this is the perfect chance to give them a second life. All ages, reading levels, and languages are welcome!

Please drop off your gently loved books at The Mount anytime this summer. We will have a bin in the Stable, and books will also be accepted at the Ticket Booth and other Youth & Family Programs.

Join us on August 10 for Community Day to explore the Children’s Book Swap and take home new favorites for your family to enjoy!

What accessibility accommodations does The Mount offer? The Mount is a Massachusetts Cultural Council UP designated organization welcoming participants of all disabilities.
