Bestselling author Carolyn Mackler will present her new middle grade novel, Right Back at You(Scholastic, 2025) and lead a workshop rooted in the themes of social connection, community building, and anti-bullying.
Right Back at You is a about two seventh-graders separated by thirty-six years who find a way to write letters to each other, realize that they are both being bullied at school, and form an unlikely friendship. Carolyn will lead a letter-writing workshop based on themes in Right Back at You such as forming connections despite differences and combating bullying in your community. Part of a greater program started by Carolyn called The Right Back at You Project, the goal is to connect children across geographic divides and encourage them to find commonality. Participants are encouraged to bring the address of a friend or relative around their age who lives far away and might be interested in becoming a pen pal. We will provide paper, pencils, envelopes, and stamps!
