The Mount welcomes visitors of all abilities and backgrounds. As a participant in the Massachusetts Cultural Council’s Universal Participation (UP) initiative, we are committed to making our tours, exhibits, programs, and grounds accessible to as many people as possible.

Terrain
The Mount’s grounds include rolling meadows, hills, wooded areas, paved paths, gravel paths, and mown lawn. The Italian Garden is accessible via a ramp located along the path to the right of the Mansion.
Natural Environment
Mobility Aids
Visitors are welcome to bring adaptive bikes, mobility scooters, or other mobility aids. Not all roads and pathways are suitable for all devices.
Manual indoor wheelchairs are available for complimentary use on a first-come, first-served basis. A manual outdoor wheelchair is available by reservation only for exploring the grounds, gardens, and woodchip paths.
Staff are available to describe terrain and suggest accessible routes.Â
Accessible Parking
Accessible parking is available at the Parking Field, the Stable (for relevant programs), and directly in front of the Mansion for tours and select programs. The Mansion is located approximately one quarter mile down the driveway from the Parking Field, Admission Booth, and Stable.
Accessible Entrances
Accessible entrances are available at both the front and back of the Stable.
The accessible entrance to the Mansion is located to the right of the Forecourt, adjacent to the accessible parking spaces.
Two ADA-compliant ramps provide access to the Event Tent across from the Stable.
Restrooms and Changing Tables
Gender-neutral, accessible restrooms are located in the Stable and on the first and second floors of the Mansion, across from the elevator. Changing tables are available in accessible restrooms.
Golf Cart Assistance
If mobility is a concern, staff are available to transport visitors by golf cart between the Parking Field, Mansion, and program spaces. Visitors may park in accessible spaces in the front row of the Parking Field and request assistance at the Ticket Booth. This service does not include tours of the grounds or gardens.
Mansion
Elevator Access
The Mnasion includes three public floors, all accessible by a modern elevator. Elevators are located at the end of the historic service wing on each floor.

Audio Tours
Free English- and Spanish-language audio tours are available for the Mansion and sculpture exhibition, each with written transcripts. Visitors may listen on their own device. Headphones or earbuds are recommended but not required. Free guest Wi-Fi is available and recommended, as cellular service may be limited.
Exhibits
Informational exhibits on the third floor of the Mansion are not currently available through the audio guide. Assistance with reading these exhibits is available upon request. Please contact 413-551-5116 or visit@edithwharton.org.

Outdoor Wheelchair
The Mount offers a manual all-terrain wheelchair for visitors interested in exploring the gardens and grounds, made possible through a grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
Designed by engineers at MIT, the GRIT Freedom Chair features mountain bike wheels and is built for use on gravel, grass, dirt, woodchips, and other uneven surfaces.
