Our Commitment
to Accessibility

The Mount welcomes visitors of all abilities and backgrounds. As a participant in the Massachusetts Cultural Council’s Universal Participation (UP) initiative, we are committed to making our tours, exhibits, programs, and grounds accessible to as many people as possible.

Companions

Caregivers

Caregivers are admitted free of charge for both tours and programs.

Service Animals

ADA service animals are welcome for tours and programs. Handlers are responsible for the care and control of their service animals, which must remain on leash at all times.

Getting Around

Terrain

The Mount’s grounds include rolling meadows, hills, wooded areas, paved paths, gravel paths, and mown lawn. The Italian Garden is accessible via a ramp located along the path to the right of the Mansion.

Natural Environment

The grounds are open to the elements and include water features, wooded areas, and wildlife habitats. Visitors should be aware of natural conditions such as insects, uneven surfaces, mud, water hazards, steep slopes, and fallen or falling tree limbs.

Mobility Aids

Visitors are welcome to bring adaptive bikes, mobility scooters, or other mobility aids. Not all roads and pathways are suitable for all devices.

Manual indoor wheelchairs are available for complimentary use on a first-come, first-served basis. A manual outdoor wheelchair is available by reservation only for exploring the grounds, gardens, and woodchip paths.

Staff are available to describe terrain and suggest accessible routes.

Accessible Parking

Accessible parking is available at the Parking Field, the Stable (for relevant programs), and directly in front of the Mansion for tours and select programs. The Mansion is located approximately one quarter mile down the driveway from the Parking Field, Admission Booth, and Stable.

Accessible Entrances

Accessible entrances are available at both the front and back of the Stable.
The accessible entrance to the Mansion is located to the right of the Forecourt, adjacent to the accessible parking spaces.

Two ADA-compliant ramps provide access to the Event Tent across from the Stable.

Restrooms and Changing Tables

Gender-neutral, accessible restrooms are located in the Stable and on the first and second floors of the Mansion, across from the elevator. Changing tables are available in accessible restrooms.

Golf Cart Assistance

If mobility is a concern, staff are available to transport visitors by golf cart between the Parking Field, Mansion, and program spaces. Visitors may park in accessible spaces in the front row of the Parking Field and request assistance at the Ticket Booth. This service does not include tours of the grounds or gardens.

Mansion

Elevator Access

The Mnasion includes three public floors, all accessible by a modern elevator. Elevators are located at the end of the historic service wing on each floor.

Wheelchair Lift

A wheelchair lift is available on the third floor to transition from the service wing to the rest of the floor. Staff are available to assist. The lift is located in the Sewing Room, the first open room on the right when exiting the elevator.

Audio Tours

Free English- and Spanish-language audio tours are available for the Mansion and sculpture exhibition, each with written transcripts. Visitors may listen on their own device.
