Offerings

Below you will find an overview of The Mount’s educational offerings. We are happy to work with your organization to tailor your visit according to your group’s grade level and areas of interest.

Mansion Tour

The Mansion is open for tours May 9 through December 20, 2026.
Explore the interior of The Mount, home to American author Edith Wharton, who designed the estate and lived here with her husband Teddy from 1902 to 1911. Wharton defied gender expectations of her day and became a bestselling author of novels, short stories, ghost stories, and poetry; self-taught expert in design and architecture; and leader of humanitarian aid during World War I.

Garden Tour

The gardens are open for tours May 9 through
mid-October.
Dive into the wonder of Wharton’s gardens and landscape. Inspired by her scholarly interest and travels to Europe, Wharton’s love of nature and beauty was made manifest in her meticulous design of the property. A tour through the gardens can stimulate discussions on landscape architecture and appreciation of beauty.

Tour of Sculpture at The Mount

Sculpture at The Mount runs May 24 through October 24, 2026.
Experience an interactive tour of our annual outdoor sculpture exhibition, Sculpture at The Mount. Encountering sculptures sited throughout the natural landscape of The Mount, students will engage in guided discussion about the artwork on display, learn about the materials used and artists’ creative processes, and share their opinions. An art activity following the tour can also be coordinated upon request.

In the Footsteps of Edith

In the Footsteps of Edith runs May 9 through December 20, 2026.
Embark on a reflective journey through the woods, meadows, and grounds of Edith Wharton’s estate. This mindful walk led by an experienced trail guide will begin with reading a brief passage of Wharton’s writing to enhance your connection to nature and frame an intention for the experience. Students will be prompted to share their thoughts and reflections during the guided walk, as well as enjoy the quiet stillness of nature.

Pricing:

We charge $5 per student; teachers and chaperones are admitted for free.
