The Amy Clampitt Memorial Reading presents poet Marie Howe

Join us to experience the work of Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Marie Howe, who will read from her latest, Pulitzer Prize-winning poetry collection, New and Selected Poems, an essential volume of twenty new poems and selections drawn from each of Howe’s four previous collections, including What the Living Do, a haunting archive of personal loss, and the National Book Award–longlisted Magdalene: Poems, a spiritual and sensual exploration of contemporary womanhood. 

This reading is presented by the Amy Clampitt Fund, a Fund of Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation, that seeks to advance poetry and the literary arts.  

 

IMPORTANT EVENT INFORMATION:

  • Tickets are free, but capacity is limitedregistration is recommended.
  • The bar at the Terrace Café will be open 4:30 – 5:30 pm.
  • This program takes place on The Mount’s Terrace under an open-air shade tent. Please be mindful of the weather and plan accordingly!
  • In the event of extreme weather, such as excessive heat or severe thunderstorms, this program may be moved indoors to The Mount’s Stable Auditorium. All registrants will be notified by email at least two hours before the scheduled start time if a venue change is necessary.
  • Please park in the Upper Parking Field. We recommend arriving 15 minutes early to allow time to enjoy the quarter-mile walk down the driveway to the Mansion. Golf carts run throughout the day if you require assistance to the event location. Accessible parking is available in spaces adjacent to the Mansion.
  • Seating for all programs at The Mount is first-come, first-served. If you have seating preferences, we recommend arriving fifteen minutes early.

Marie Howe is the author of five volumes of poetry, New and Selected Poems (2024), which won the 2025 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry; Magdalene: Poems (2017)The Kingdom of Ordinary Time (2008); The Good Thief (1988); and What the Living Do (1997), and she is the co-editor of a book of essays, In the Company of My Solitude: American Writing from the AIDS Pandemic (1995). Her poems have appeared in The New Yorker, The Atlantic, Poetry, Agni, Ploughshares, Harvard Review, and The Partisan Review, among others. She has been a fellow at the Bunting Institute at Radcliffe College and a recipient of NEA and Guggenheim fellowships, and Stanley Kunitz selected Howe for a Lavan Younger Poets Prize from the American Academy of Poets. In 2015, she received the Academy of American Poets Poetry Fellowship, and from 2012 to 2014, she served as the Poet Laureate of New York State.
