Morning Mushroom Hike with Mass Audubon

September 30 @ 8:30 am - 10:00 am

Early fall is one of the best times to notice fungi—and the variety can be surprising. This beginner-friendly hike explores the basics of mushroom identification and introduces the many roles fungi play in healthy forests. Your naturalist will share recent research and useful resources so you can keep learning long after the walk.

Please note: This program does not cover foraging edible mushrooms and will take place at a location where collecting mushrooms is prohibited. However, you will leave with a stronger appreciation and understanding of these fascinating fungi, not to mention a few keepsake photo opportunities.

IMPORTANT EVENT INFORMATION:

  • This program is designed for adult audiences; pre-registration is required.
  • Meet in The Mount’s Main Parking Lot near the Ticket Booth.
  • Depending on where the fungi are flourishing, this program may cover up to 1.5 miles of wide, gently sloped trails. Some sections of the trail may have exposed tree roots or rocks. Consider bringing trekking poles if you typically use them on uneven ground.
  • If the weather forecast or other factors affect this program, your guide will contact you via email the day before your program with more information.
  • Bring a hand lens or magnifying glass if you have one, and feel free to borrow a loaner if needed.
  • This program does not cover foraging edible mushrooms; even so, participants are not permitted to eat or sample anything from The Mount’s landscape. All participants assume full responsibility for their own safety and actions, and the guide is not liable for any ingestion or allergic reactions.
